KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian rubber market is likely to get a lift this week on plans by Malaysia and Thailand to collaborate in setting up rubber industry zones on both sides of the common border, dealers said.
The plan was announced by Thailand's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Yutthapong Charassathien, on the second day of Asean Rubber Day 2013 convention in Phuket last Friday.
The plan is expected to create jobs and income for nationals of the two neighbouring nations.
On a week-to-week basis, the Malaysian Rubber Board's official physical price for tyre-grade SMR 20 fell 54.5 sen to 779.5 sen a kg on Friday, against 787 sen per kg previous Friday.
Latex-in-bulk was down by eight sen to 594 sen a kg from 595 sen per kg.
The unofficial sellers' closing price for tyre-grade SMR20 declined 29.5 sen to 777.5 sen a kg versus 764 sen per kg last week, while latex-in-bulk dropped 7.5 sen to 592 sen a kg from 591.5 sen per kg previously. Bernama
